Top 5 New Features of Floor Plan Mapper

November 1, 2024by Mark Laudon0

Floor Plan Mapper is used by companies to visualize workspaces, streamline desk booking, and manage office layouts. With new features, it’s now even more powerful. Here’s a look at five exciting updates that’ll make managing your office space more seamless than ever.

1. Advanced Security Settings

Security comes first in any business, and Floor Plan Mapper has improved security to give you full control. The platform now offers three distinct user roles: Owner, Admin, and User.

Each role level provides different permissions:

  • Users: Basic access without the ability to modify key settings.
  • Admins: More control, including access to the admin pane for settings management.
  • Owners: Have full access to make system-wide changes.

This tiered system allows businesses to assign roles based on job functions and responsibilities. It simplifies managing what users can view and control, keeping things secure and organized. For example, when a user logs in, they won’t see the admin panel unless they have the necessary permissions.

Floor Plan Mapper also lets admins customize permissions at a feature level. You can enable or disable features like permanent desk booking. For example, if a desk is permanently reserved, users no longer have the option to book it. It’s a straightforward way to manage office space dynamically without constant manual supervision.

2. Dynamic Label Sizing

If you’ve tried printing a dense office layout, you know the struggle of overlapping labels. In a space full of cubicles, things are bound to get tight, especially when printing.

The new Dynamic Label Sizing feature is designed to fix this. It lets you resize employee name labels so they don’t run into each other when printing. Users can simply select their preferred label size from a dropdown. It’s a simple but incredibly useful feature that ensures your floor plans are both readable and professional.

This update is especially helpful in large companies where crowded layouts are common. Now, nothing critical will get lost in a sea of unreadable text.

3. Advanced Internet Embedding

Companies often embed their software tools directly into platforms like SharePoint. Previously, embedding Floor Plan Mapper in places like a company intranet meant employees had to log in manually every time. That’s not ideal when quick access is key.

To solve this, Floor Plan Mapper now offers Advanced Internet Embedding, ensuring seamless access without forcing individual logins each time. Now, users can view floor plans or seating information directly through their intranet, without manually re-entering credentials.

For example, employees navigating their company directory via an intranet will see their seating details automatically, no launching external pages or additional windows. It speeds up the workflow and feels smoother overall.

4. Advanced API Sync

Efficiency often depends on keeping data up-to-date. The old method of manually updating profiles, seating locations, and job titles? It’s slow, inefficient, and leads to outdated information floating around.

Here’s where the Advanced API Sync process comes in. The API allows Floor Plan Mapper to automatically sync data like:

  • Employee seating locations
  • Desk assignments
  • Job titles

Let’s say your team uses Microsoft Entra. Through the API sync, Floor Plan Mapper will pull employee data from Microsoft and update the floor plan in real-time. New hires get automatically added, employees who’ve moved desks get their profiles updated, and those who’ve left are removed.

This API sync eliminates hours of manual updates, making sure everything is current and accurate. You’ll save time, and your office map will always be one step ahead.

5. Advanced Hot Linking

Last but not least, Advanced Hot Linking improves how data is cross-referenced and displayed. Imagine you’re using an employee directory and want to know exactly where someone is sitting. Now, when you click on an employee’s name, it’ll take you straight to their desk location on the map.

It goes beyond just employee directories, though. Think about linking an IT asset system to the office floor map. When a user clicks a link in the asset system, they can immediately see where the item is located within the office.

Hot linking lets you integrate location data from any software system, webpage, or even spreadsheet. It’s a fast and targeted way to pull up specific content—whether it’s a person’s desk or a piece of IT hardware—making cross-platform interaction a breeze.

These five new features show how Floor Plan Mapper continues to evolve, offering better security, dynamic layouts, seamless integration, and faster updates. Each upgrade provides its own unique value, and when combined, these features make managing office layouts easier and more efficient.

Whether you’re juggling crowded desks in a corporate office or syncing a dynamic employee directory, Floor Plan Mapper latest improvements will keep you on top of things. With more flexibility and control, your workspace has never been easier to organize.
